One of the fascinating assumptions in neuroscience is that the brain generates cognition. My deep interest and ultimate goal in the field is to understand how individual neurons and neuronal networks can possibly generate such transition between these two different domains; for example the transition from spike patterns and oscillatory activity which are objective measurable parameters to memory and subjective qualities. This question often defined as “The Psycho-Physical Problem” remains unsolved for 2,500 years after it was first formulated. The opportunity to acquire neuroscientific tools - to study at least some aspects of this wonder - is a great one.
